The Problem With Marriage

The problem with marriage - or the modern understanding of marriage - is that a union which claims to help two independent people find "self-actualization" or to "fulfill all their dreams" is impossible. What happens when one person's self-actualization is one hundred percent in the way of the other person's dream? Well, maybe divorce. Maybe just a fight. Possibly one partner yields all rights to his own "self-actualization" and bends to the other's will - not happily, but out of necessity - perhaps there are children involved. Scones!

Since the the big kids we're having Thanksgiving parties at school today, I thought that Phinehas and Elena and I should do something special! So we did some baking after Circle Time. Elena played with playdoh while Phinehas and I made scones... Only when the second batch was nearly ready to go in the oven did I realize that we had cut up the butter, but never added it in to the dough! Whoops! Still, there was enough sugar and raisins and whipping cream in the dough, to be very edible. And it filled Phinehas' "love tank" right up!

Goings On

Monica with her handmade (by her) braided headband: A craft which required NO preparation, and which I could practically do in my sleep. Perfect!   A Sunday afternoon stroll with the kids. Winter in the Willamette Valley people. On days like that you wonder why anybody lives anywhere else!     Ezra’s birthday card for his dad, in February:   The text: you’r the best Dad Ever because 1. you give us treats 2. you take us to school 3. you take us home from choir 4. your realy nice to us and I think that’s all. It’s not exactly, “Thank you dad for leading us in the way of righteousness” but it’s definitely sincere.     And finally a few candid shots of Elena enjoying her new favorite place: outdoors!
