The Theatre, the Theatre .. the OSF Theatre in Ashland

Our Trip To Ashland, OR in July

We've been wanting to take our kids to see some plays in Ashland, OR for several years but this year we finally made the leap! We were scheduled to see Love's Labor's Lost in the outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre, Henry V in the Thomas Theater and Othello in the Bowman Theatre, but we only made it to the last two. Sadly, the first one was cancelled due to the wildfire smoke in the area, that was kind of off the charts and unhealthy to breathe - and there's no way to filter it out in an outdoor theater! Still, we had a pretty good time, and the kids enjoyed Henry V, which ended up being the only one they saw. It was a good one, though, and in a theater that is so small that anywhere you sit you are only yards away from the performers. My parents and my sister, Katy, and her significant other, Ryan, joined us for the adventure. 


A vacation with Michael would not be complete without some sort of hike: this one in the Siskiyou National Forest (just up the hill from our rental house!).

Our rental house had a hot tub, turned down as low as possible and greatly enjoyed!

I saw this silk poncho at a maker's market in Ashland and went back for it after getting coffee. Not sure how often I'll wear it, but I LOVE it, so there's that.

Michael, Judah, Ezra, Monica and I went on a back stage tour. This is in the Elizabethan theater - so at least we saw it.

Still, nothing delights Elena's heart like playing a game with her. Phinehas likes games, too!

Catching Up on Birthdays

It is a truth universally acknowledged that someone who posts blog posts less than monthly might as well not be blogging at all. *sigh* Nevertheless, I press on. I use this blog as my scrapbooking process, and without it, there will be no scrapbook, and hence, no record.  So, to catch up on birthdays from this year: Elena turned 5 in August! Our baby is five! We actually had a small family celebration the day of her birthday, complete with some candles stuck into a Costco muffin, and the pictures were sweet. However, a young man of the family was messing around with my phone, and those pictures are gone for good, a feat that seems nearly impossible in the day and age, but there you are. At the end of August, we celebrated a joint birthday party for Elena and her cousin Elinor, who was celebrating her first birthday.  It was a "unicorn" themed party.. Baking bread on the barbecue doesn't ALWAYS work like a charm: In case you were wondering, the above picture is of my attempt at baking Sourdough French Bread on my gas grill last week. I made the mistake of precariously perching a bagette pan on the little rack up above the cooking surface. It tipped over. I was able to save the round loves they fell on, but the baguettes were toast.
