Monica - Our Water Dog




Of all of our children, Monica is the one who loves swimming the most! She enjoyed her swimming lessons, though she had a bad experience in the summer with a teacher who rather rudely told her she should be two levels below where she was, which kind of crushed her enthusiasm for a little while. However, she does love to be in the water, so I signed her up for swimming lessons in the fall in Canby and she thoroughly enjoyed them! Unfortunately, she is quite nearsighted so at one point she didn't even realize that she had a substitute teacher one day! I finally ordered her prescription goggles - thrilling!

Since Monica has difficult feet - high arches, pronated, planter fasciitis - swimming might be her best option for life-long exercise. *sigh* Not the easiest one to do from home! (though Monica would be entirely pleased if we dug up our backyard and put in a pool!!)

Unexpected Houseguest

In February of 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down, we ended up having an unexpected houseguest join us for a few day - which turned into 6 months! Our friend's son, Ethan, ended up rooming with Ezra and Phin for that time. Since his stay impacted us in a big way, I didn't want to leave him out of our photo albums!

Look Who’s Turning Two!

Today Elena turns two! She’s pretty sweet, so I’m pretty sure that the “Terrible Twos” doesn’t yet apply to her. Recently, she’s really started to grow up into one of “the kids” rather than merely being “the baby.” She loves to play with all of her siblings, but Phinehas especially has become a favorite companion lately. It’s the age old story – she laughs at his jokes, so he dotes on her. They all do, really. She’s speaking in sentences, though not everybody can understand them! “I donwanna go to bed” is a frequently repeated phrase. “Daddy’s home!” and “Phinny crying!” are other examples. She is enthralled with dogs and babies these days. When we were in Tri-Cities and my brother and sister-in-law brought their 6 month old over she was very insistent that she “Hold the baby!” She didn’t want to stop.
