What's better than a living doll to dress up? Monica undertook this project.

After a hike at Oneonta Gorge we celebrated surviving with ice cream.

Our traveling companion, Jonathan Shaw, bought the "large." 

Monica settled for a "small."

Apparently this is what "spies" wear... my grandma's costume jewelry helps.

I'm not sure why there was so much dress up this month!

Summer time reading - what ails me and how to fix it! Some good thoughts, but no fast solutions. Darn. ;-)

We introduced the kids to Chariots of Fire to mixed reviews - but even they couldn't resist the music..

I asked Monica to pick out some pretty clothes for Elena,  and she brought me the little cornflower blue dress I bought for her when she was little.  I thought,  "but that's a church dress!"  When she was wearing it around all afternoon, looking adorable, I was so happy I didn't kybosh it,  though! Why save all the pretty clothes for dressy occasions? Who knows what Sunday may bring?

Unexpected Houseguest

In February of 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down, we ended up having an unexpected houseguest join us for a few day - which turned into 6 months! Our friend's son, Ethan, ended up rooming with Ezra and Phin for that time. Since his stay impacted us in a big way, I didn't want to leave him out of our photo albums!

The Problem With Marriage

The problem with marriage - or the modern understanding of marriage - is that a union which claims to help two independent people find "self-actualization" or to "fulfill all their dreams" is impossible. What happens when one person's self-actualization is one hundred percent in the way of the other person's dream? Well, maybe divorce. Maybe just a fight. Possibly one partner yields all rights to his own "self-actualization" and bends to the other's will - not happily, but out of necessity - perhaps there are children involved. Sometimes the idea of "compromise" is introduced - I give this, you give that. Maybe neither is happy, but hey, any reasonable person can see that you can't have your own way all the time. I just read Dr. Leithart's article " When Marriage is Dying ." He made the case that any marriage involves death - the death of two single people to produce a couple, and that every marriage requires daily...
